Capabilities

Hastings Deering have been providing fluid analysis to various industries since 1973. Our modern ISO 9001 accredited laboratory located at Archerfield, Brisbane specialises in the analysis of fluids and debris from machinery across all industries. The laboratory provides routine analysis and interpretation of lubricating oil, coolant, grease, diesel and emulsion fluids. We also specialise in a range of microscopy techniques to identify material from filters and magnetic plugs.

Our dedicated team provide timely analysis and interpretation of your samples to assist you with your maintenance processes. All results can be viewed through our Oil Commander software. A user friendly, Internet application that allows you to manage and assess your analysis results online from anywhere in the world you have internet access.

Our friendly and professional staff are available to discuss your analysis requirements. Contact Us

Oil Analysis

Heavy mobile equipment and plant is frequently exposed to severe environmental and working conditions, so regular maintenance is necessary. Taking a preventative approach to maintenance with an effective fluid and condition monitoring program will help to maximise the investment in your equipment, by reducing unexpected failures and costly unscheduled downtime. Coolant Analysis

To meet the rigorous demands of the modern, heavy duty diesel engine, the cooling system must be maintained as diligently as any other mechanical component of the machine. Modern diesel engine coolants such as Caterpillar's Extended Life Coolant (ELC) is designed to have a long service life and require little maintenance invtervention. However regular laboratory monitoring is essential for early detection of cooling system problems and to ensure that the best possible service life of expensive coolants and cooling systems are achieved. Fuel Analysis

Fuel is probably the largest single expense faced by heavy equipment operators. It pays to ensure that the quality of the fuel you have purchased is up to the job. Contaminated fuel can reduce the engine performance and may cause abnormal or catastrophic wear in engine components such as fuel pumps and injectors.

Diesel fuel testing ensures that you will not sacrifice power or reliability by using a sub-standard product. The program detects fuel deterioration and determines if inherent qualities fall within required limits. More information

Grease Analysis

Incorrect grease selection can lead to costly downtime and repairs. Analysis from Hastings Deering Laboratory Services ensures the grease is suitable for application and in good condition. Contamination and wear levels are easily identified and reported along with a photograph of the debris and a wear severity graph to highlight compartment condition. More information

Emulsion Analysis

Water-in-oil emulsions (or invert emulsions) are fire-resistant hydraulic fluids. Maintaining the correct oil-water ratio is critical to ensuring the fire resistant properties. Routine analysis monitors this characteristic along with detection of abnormal wear and other contaminants that may be detrimental to the system or fluid life. More information

Wear Debris Analysis

Filtergrams are the most comprehensive test our laboratory offers for analysing particulate wear debris. The sample to be examined is dissolved in a solvent and filtered through a very fine membrane filter. The wear debris and other contaminants in the oil are captured on the membrane for examination under a high power microscope. The filtergram report gives an analysis of the size and composition of all the particles found as well as the wear mechanism which generated the metallic particles.

The ferrogram is a technique to prepare samples for microscopic examination by separating ferrous wear particles in a magnetic field. This will sort the particles according to their size distribution and segregate the ferrous and non-ferrous components. More information
